“The miracle Mexican avocado seed”

articleUseronAugust 5, 2026
Avocados are widely appreciated for their creamy texture and heart-friendly fats, but the large seed at the center is often discarded without a second thought. In many traditional wellness practices, however, avocado seeds have been brewed into herbal tea and enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Although avocado seed contains natural plant compounds such as polyphenols and antioxidants, research on its safety and health effects in humans is still limited. This tea should be viewed as a traditional beverage rather than a medical treatment or a substitute for professional healthcare.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to prepare avocado seed tea, discover its traditional uses, and find practical tips for enjoying it responsibly.

What Is Avocado Seed Tea?

Avocado seed tea is a simple herbal infusion made by simmering grated or chopped avocado seed in water. The brewing process produces a reddish-brown tea with a mild earthy flavor.

Many people enjoy adding fresh lemon juice or a small amount of honey to create a brighter, smoother taste.

Traditional Wellness Benefits of Avocado Seed Tea

While more clinical research is needed, avocado seed contains naturally occurring compounds that have attracted scientific interest.

Rich in Natural Antioxidants

Avocado seeds contain polyphenols and other antioxidant compounds that may help protect cells from oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

Supports Healthy Digestion

Warm herbal beverages are often enjoyed after meals as part of traditional digestive routines. Some people include avocado seed tea in their daily habits to promote digestive comfort.

May Support Heart-Friendly Nutrition

Avocado seeds contain plant compounds that researchers continue to study for their potential role in supporting cardiovascular wellness when combined with a healthy lifestyle.

A Naturally Caffeine-Free Beverage

Unlike coffee or black tea, avocado seed tea contains no caffeine, making it a relaxing option throughout the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado seed
  • 1 liter (about 4 cups) of water
  • Juice from half a lemon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon pure honey (optional)

How to Make Avocado Seed Tea

Step 1: Prepare the Seed

Wash the avocado seed thoroughly to remove any remaining fruit. Pat it dry with a clean towel.

Cut the seed into small pieces or grate it using a fine grater.

Step 2: Boil the Water

Bring 1 liter of water to a gentle boil in a saucepan.

Add the chopped or grated avocado seed.

Step 3: Simmer the Tea

Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer gently for 15–20 minutes.

During this time, the water may develop a reddish color as natural plant compounds are released.

Step 4: Add Lemon (Optional)

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Stir in the juice of half a lemon for a refreshing citrus flavor and an extra source of vitamin C.

Step 5: Strain and Sweeten

Pour the tea through a fine strainer to remove the seed pieces.

If desired, add one teaspoon of pure honey for a naturally sweeter taste.

Step 6: Serve

Enjoy the tea warm for a comforting drink, or chill it for a refreshing herbal beverage.

A slice of fresh lemon can be added for garnish and aroma.
